Historically: It began with Charles Darwin, he is credited with it, but it is partially a blending of beliefs from the ancient Babylonians and Egyptians along with observations seen by Charles Darwin.
1831: Charles Darwin was 22 when he shipped on the H.M.S. Beagle. He went to the Galapagos Islands off of the coast of South America to study birds and life forms.
1859 Darwin’s book, The Origin of Species, was published and Darwin’s conclusion was “that through natural selection a population will become stronger and better adapted to its environment. If this continued long enough, new and different species would evolve.”
Contrary to popular belief, near the end of Darwin’s life, he embraced his previous Biblical faith. Lady Hope of Northfield, England who was a close friend of Darwin and frequented his bedside wrote that Darwin said “… I made some allusion to the strong opinions expressed by many of the history of creation and their treatment of the earlier chapters of the book of Genesis. I was a young man with uninformed ideas. I threw out queries, suggestions, wondering all the time about everything. To my astonishment the ideas of evolution took like wildfire. People made a religion out of them”
I know we’re looking at evolution, and throughout this study the “generic” term evolution means the general organic theory of evolution. DEFINITION: The general organic theory of evolution- all living things have arisen by materialistic, naturalistic, evolutionary process from a single source, which itself arose by a similar process from a non-living world.
Belief in the theory of evolution requires as much or more faith than
a belief in Genesis and the Bible account of creation. This belief has
now become son prevalent in our society that there are sub-groups of evolutionists
who believe different parts and have blended their own ideas with evolution
to come up with their own “ brand” of evolution.
Atheistic evolutionists- Believe in the eternity of matter but
they do not seek to explain a starting point for the basic matter of the
universe.
Agnostic evolutionists- Believe in a first cause that is unknown
and unknowable.
Theistic evolutionists- Believe God started the universe but after
that evolution did the rest. There are even sub types of theistic evolutionists,
with more than one way the universe came about.
Typically we study the Bible by logic. Much of what we will do in this study is comparing what the Bible says with scientific evidence.
The first thing to point out is that scientists look at things based
on fact. 99% of things considered scientifically are either “black or white”
there is little “gray” area. When there is gray area scientists’ design
and build experiments and progress through the “scientific method” to prove
things they observe they look into the how and why things happen. They
do this typically by much observation and reporting the facts.
The scientific method has a series of steps to getting answers for what
the scientist is looking for.
1. Ideas or assumptions. They must begin by taking some things for
granted.
2. Hypothesis. This is an open-ended question that must have the possibility
of having multiple answers or no answer. This question is based on facts
and evidence that is available at that time. The question must possibly
have a false answer or no answer.
3. Experimentation. Experiments are designed and performed, results
are noted. Results and designs must be repeatable and reproducible by others
through the use of lab notes, not by hands on assistance.
4. Once experiments and verifiable results are achieved a theory may
then be formed.
5. A THEORY is an acceptable, verifiable answer to explain something.
Has evolution been scientifically proven? NO.
1. Steps of evolution have never been observed.
2. Evolution is impossible to be reproduced in a lab.
3. Is their answer false? If so what other scientific answer is available?
Evolution cannot be defended by the use of science and the scientific method.
4. Dobansky, who is a leading evolutionist even says that
the experiments exceed the lifetime of
Any human experimenter.
I do not believe the “Theory of Evolution” based upon standard scientific principles meets the acceptance and verifiability standards of a “Theory”. It should not be taught to anyone as fact, it at best should be only taught as a hypothesis or idea of many.
Many evolutionists will back a Christian who believes in creation into a corner, because creation cannot be defended with the scientific method either.
Brethren, creation does not have to be defended by science. Creation is not a scientific idea. It is based upon faith. This is very important to remember when teaching one who has difficulty in understanding the defense of creation.
Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence
of things not seen.
(NKJV)
Heb 11:1 Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of
things not seen.
(ASV)
Assurance is defined as a guarantee or certainty.
Substance is defined as the real or essential part of anything.
Faith is not what you see, what you see is knowledge. Faith is what you don’t see.
Look at the evidence based upon scripture and the scientific data. Look
at scientific models and evaluate them for yourselves, look at the laws
of probability, (mathematics), the laws of thermodynamics, genetics, and
other scientific fields of study.
Ge 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the
face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the
waters.
3 Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the
light from the darkness.
5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.
So the evening and the morning were the first day.
6 Then God said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the
waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters."
7 Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were
under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and
it was so.
8 And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the
morning were the second day.
9 Then God said, "Let the waters under the heavens be gathered
together into one place, and let the dry land appear"; and it was so.
10 And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together
of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb
that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its
kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth"; and it was so.
12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed
according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in
itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
13 So the evening and the morning were the third day.
14 Then God said, "Let there be lights in the firmament of the
heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and
seasons, and for days and years;
15 "and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens
to give light on the earth"; and it was so.
16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule
the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.
17 God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light
on the earth,
18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide
the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19 So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
20 Then God said, "Let the waters abound with an abundance of
living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of
the firmament of the heavens."
21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing
that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and
every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
22 And God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply, and
fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth."
23 So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24 Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth the living creature
according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth,
each according to its kind"; and it was so.
25 And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind,
cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according
to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to
Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the
birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every
creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He
created him; male and female He created them.
28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful
and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish
of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that
moves on the earth."
29 And God said, "See, I have given you every herb that yields
seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit
yields seed; to you it shall be for food.
30 "Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air,
and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have
given every green herb for food"; and it was so.
31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was
very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them,
were finished.
2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done,
and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because
in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
(NKJV)
God’s creation, this is how our universe began. Creation is a central fact of our faith.
Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and
the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was
made that was made.
(NKJV)
Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word
of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which
are visible.
(NKJV)
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who
comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those
who diligently seek Him.
(NKJV)
Re 4:11 "You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power;
For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created."
(NKJV)
Creation is also a part of new testament gospel preaching.
Ac 14:15 and saying, "Men, why are you doing these things? We also are
men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn
from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth,
the sea, and all things that are in them,
(NKJV)
Ac 17:24 "God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is
Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.
25 "Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed
anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.
26 "And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell
on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times
and the boundaries of their dwellings,
(NKJV)
This is creation and it is what I am attempting to show you how to defend, to your children, over the college professors, schoolteachers, society, T.V., the media, and the Internet.
We’ll do this with evidences, which are used to show the factuality of the Christian religion. Primarily by looking at the ones that support the Bible and the creation account in Genesis, but based upon science. These are typically called external evidences because they come from outside the Bible and attest to its factuality and truthfulness.
Look at what we would call natural revelation. Just look around and see all that you can see.
Isa 40:21 Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told
you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of
the earth?
22 It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants
are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And
spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
(NKJV)
In this country Columbus Day is celebrated in October. In 1492 many people thought the earth was flat. Columbus wanted to sail west to reach the east; the royal family of Italy wouldn’t fund his trip because they knew the earth was flat. They thought he would sail off the edge of the earth. These are people who lived in Rome, where the Catholic church was headquartered, and were royalty who in those days would have been some of the higher educated people in the world. Columbus sailed under the Spanish flag, funded by the Queen of Spain. Isaiah knew the earth was round some 2000 years earlier.
Ps 19:1 <<To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.>> The heavens
declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.
2 Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words
to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun,
5 Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoices
like a strong man to run its race.
6 Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the
other end; And there is nothing hidden from its heat.
7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony
of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The
commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments
of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine
gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them
there is great reward.
12 Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.
13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them
not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent
of great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be
acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.
(NKJV)
David declares back in his days the design of the universe. Evolutionists say it happened by chance, there is no designer for what we see all around us. Evolutionists say we are all interrelated by common chemicals that make up all living things. DNA is what they call this common link. I say it shows God’s all intelligent design. It is today known to engineers as economy of design.
Ex. Any large skyscraper in a major city today is made up of mostly concrete, steel, wood, drywall, glass, asphalt roof materials, and definitely has a designer. Next look at a small single family residence, maybe under 1,000 square feet. It too has concrete, steel, wood; drywall, glass, asphalt-roofing material, and maybe the guy who built it out of his concept in his head designed it. These materials are in different proportions, and different amounts, like each living thing, but are the same building blocks, put together in a different design.
Chance is not the answer. Design is, and to have design, one must have
a designer.
