I call this lesson the fruits of evolution. I give it this name because evolution is false teaching. Jesus describes false teachers and identifies how one would know them:

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?”

Matt.  7: 15-16

Jesus then stresses this fact again in further down the page after giving further examples.

Therefore by their fruits you will know them.”
         Matt. 7: 20

Evolution is taught as fact in almost every corner of our society today, from our elementary schools to our public and many private universities. It is taught by intimidation and by attempting to publicly embarrass anyone that disagrees.

Many evolutionists believe that Christians who believe in scientific creationism ideas are based on religious dogma and most importantly scientific creationists do not have a testable, scientific theory to replace evolution with.

I would like to say most of these scientists do not understand what they are writing about on this issue. What they calls religious dogma is the book of Genesis, and they also do not understand is that it is matter of our faith to believe the Bible and the authority of the scriptures. It also does us harm when we compromise our beliefs and fail to stand up for the truth.

Many who call themselves Christians look at the scriptures selectively and choose only the ones convenient for their use at that particular time.  These compromises are where things like theistic evolution arise. This is situation ethics that Paul warned Timothy about.

“having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”
           2 Timothy 3: 5

Many of these same scientists think we want the Bible account of creation to be taught in schools along side of evolution.  The public schools today have enough problems with students and teaching reading, writing, arithmetic and all of the other subjects they are teaching. I do not believe they could properly teach the Bible accurately and correctly to children. First and foremost it should be taught in our homes. Secondly and unfortunately we live in a legal society that would not only require the Bible be taught, but also the Koran, the Book of Mormon, and any other world religion that the local school thought necessary. I personally think evolution should not be taught as part of the science curriculum.

Some of these other religions are being taught in public schools in this country as “diversity education”. Many students have trouble learning American History and do not know that much of the legal system we have in this country comes from the Bible. That part has been taken out of history and civics courses in our schools.

We as a country have fallen down a long hill in the past 225 years. Over 50 of the 55 signers of “The Declaration of Independence” were deeply committed Christians. Thomas Jefferson was not only the writer of The Declaration of Independence but also the chairman of the American Bible Society. The American Bible Society have since their founding in 1816 has been focused on translation, publication, and distribution of Bibles to as many people as possible. Thomas Jefferson considered this his highest and most important role. Thomas Jefferson was this country’s third President, 1801-1809.

Calvin Coolidge, our 30th president, from 1923-1929, wrote: “The foundations of our society and our government rests so much on the teachings of the Bible that it would be difficult to support them if faith in these teachings would cease to be practically universal in our country”

And 106 of the first 108 universities founded in America were distinctly Christian, including the first Harvard University in 1636. Now in the past 50 years the professors from Harvard University have been some of the most vocal and politically involved in teaching evolution, including Stephen Jay Gould, who is probably this country’s most famous evolutionist, and George Wald a Nobel laureate scientist.

There are many other facts that I could talk to you about that show much of the history of this country is based on the Bible.

Evolution is an idea that has only been widely studied for not even the past 150 years. It wasn’t published until 1859 and wasn’t wide spread in this country until sometime after W.W. II.

Evolutionists still cannot answer these questions:
How does something come from nothing?  Are the physical laws of the universe an accident?  Can one get life from dead chemicals? Where are the transitional fossils?  How do complex things come about without intelligent design?
Yet this idea is taught as a fact in our schools today.

Evolution teaches we have evolved from animals. That little mutations and adaptations changed a specific group of chemicals (non-living) in the proper proportions in the proper arrangement into life. Then these small adaptations and mutations (when they weren’t harmful) made each different type of plant and animal we see today; eventually humans were formed.

Following this same chain of logic one can understand why an evolutionist would teach that we humans are no different than animals.  The fruits of false teaching, evolution.

Evolution is atheism, in all forms; it is at best a compromise of one’s faith. It destroys the faith of those who are deceived by it. My # 1 question to ask someone who teaches or believes it is?
Does one become a better biologist, chemist, geologist, or teacher because of it?

The teaching of evolution produces immorality.
 
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made even His eternal power and Godhead, so they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in there thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man-and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness, full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgement of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”
         Romans 1: 18-32
 

In verse 18: we learn that the wrath of God is revealed form heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men. And that these men suppress or hold back the truth.

In verse 21: we find out that they knew God and did not glorify Him as God. How did they know God? Verse 20: since creation his attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made.

We can go all the way back to Genesis to see that man knew in some form or another to worship God. Genesis 4 is about Cain and Abel, and one’s sacrifice was acceptable to God and one wasn’t.

Verse 22: Professing to be wise, they became fools. This is so evident when talking about the subject of evolution. So many people are told they are dumb if they believe in the creation account of Genesis. Many, many today are very intelligent in this world’s knowledge, even so intelligent in their own eyes that they do not believe in God. It is impossible for them to believe that God created the universe and the Gospel of Christ because they don’t want to be thought of as not being intelligent.
Verses 25; These men exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshipped creature instead of the Creator.

Then look at what happened in the following verses:
Verse 26: starts out with FOR THIS REASON, because these men exchanged the truth of God for the lie.
1. Homosexuality, 2. Attitude towards God (vs. 28) they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, 3.They were filled with ALL unrighteousness, (vs. 29) not some but ALL. Look at the characteristics of ALL unrighteousness.

List verses 29-31.

Then verse 32. These men knew the righteous judgement of God and what the wages for this all unrighteousness was, death. Notice it is also a warning not only to those who practice such things but also those who approve of them.

This is where we see the fruits of evolution begin. The evolutionist teaches that man is nothing different than the natural brute beast to be caught and destroyed as we see in 2 Peter 2:12.

We see homosexuality being widely and openly accepted by some in our society today.  To prove this I brought an article from Washington Post, dated November 19th. I’m sure many of you know of this but listen to the other states involved with similar but not as strong rulings.

This not only shows openness for homosexuality, it also shows an open acceptance for it in some portions of our society. The other issue under attack here is the family unit as God ordained it from the beginning.

Jesus taught in Matthew what God said marriage to be.

“ And he answered them and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘ made them male and female’ “and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? “So then they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate”
         Matthew 19: 4-6

According to the Massachusetts Court God plays no part in marriage anymore and that they are and I’m sure that these justices are thought to be very wise. One may think this is an issue far from here, but there is much written in the Lexington Herald Leader, not in the editorial section, but in news sections, that the City of Lexington is considering giving benefits to employees’ “same sex partners” and has commissioned a study to look into the costs involved.

This is plainly an attack on the institution on the family unit that has enough problems in today’s society as well.
I would like to look at the way marriage is described in Genesis.

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, they shall become one flesh.
          Genesis 2:24

This clearly shows God intended for marriage to be between a man and his wife, Eve was Adam’s wife and she was clearly a woman according to Genesis 2: 23, and she was fully a woman, being able to bear children, Genesis 3:20 she is called mother of all living. She was not a man who wanted to act like a woman, and Adam was not a woman who wanted to act like a man.

Many go into the marriage relationship without considering the magnitude of such a commitment.  They have God far from their minds, because we are no different than animals to the evolutionist. That they have no problem looking for a mate elsewhere when their current spouse doesn’t suit them.  Divorce rates are extremely high. Most states including Kentucky have what are called “no-fault” divorce laws in fact it is the only reason given in Kentucky for a divorce. This is defined as an irretrievable breakdown of marriage and the spouses have to live apart for 60 days.

Jesus gave the only reason for divorce in Matthew 5.

“But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.
           Matthew 5:32

Jesus gave the only reason a husband and wife may divorce when speaking to the Pharisees in Matthew 19.

“And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.”              Matthew 19: 9

Jesus also said in Mark 10: 11-12 “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

Jesus also expressed the same view of divorce in Luke 16: 18.  His always had the same answer whenever this question was asked of Him, unfortunately this is a highly debated topic even today among some brethren, but if one believes the authority of the scriptures, one has to believe what Jesus said about this issue.

According to the U.S. Census bureau, almost a million marriages a year end in divorce, this doesn’t include California (the highest populated state), Colorado, Indiana, and Louisiana where the number of divorces aren’t kept track of.  This is because God has been taken out of divorce as well.

Others who decide they know the issue of commitment but aren’t willing to make it look at the cost savings of “living together”. Again God and what He ordained from the beginning is not considered. According to the Census Bureau, 4 million  (man/woman) couples “live together”.

The next fruit of evolution is the attitude towards God: Many evolutionists teach there is no God, some believe in some form of higher being but there is a very large movement towards people in our society not wanting to even retain God in their knowledge. Another Associated Press article from November 29th. Titled “Sunday dilemma in U.S.: Sports vs. Church”.

By reading this article it is plainly seen that church and worshiping God takes a back seat to work, homework, weekend errands, and now even children’s sports. This attitude towards God isn’t a new thing, wickedness and evil was around even in Noah’s days. That can be seen in Genesis 6:5. Many people move their families to take better paying jobs without even considering where they will attend Church.

But putting God on the back further on the list of priorities is more and more common today. Read Matthew 6: 24-34. Jesus teaches that God will make sure that our daily necessities are taken care of and we have enough to consider today.

I have seen it written in more than one place that if one does not believe the first four words of the Old Testament, he does not believe any of the sixty six books of the Bible. That if one cannot believe that in the beginning that God was, than they cannot believe the remainder of the sentence.

This attitude of today being more important than eternity is very prevalent in our society. Many people make decisions based on what is important about right now instead of considering the cost whether, time, or commitment, or money.

There are many other issues that stem from us becoming nothing more than an animal in an evolutionist’s eyes. Drug abuse and Alcohol abuse. A former drug addict wrote these comments I would like to read to you. These Quotes are from the book The Lie.

“At school the theory of evolution was presented in such a way that none of us ever doubted it was scientific fact… My belief in evolution had 3 important practical consequences…”
1. “It strongly encouraged me to look into drugs as an ultimate source of comfort and creativity…from chemical reactions thou hast come and unto chemical reactions thou shalt return. And so I did.”
2. “It led to the conclusion that God, if he was around at all, was a very distant and impersonal figure, separated from humanity by very great distances of time and space.”
3. “It led me to increasingly abandon the moral values I had been taught at home, because when man is viewed as an arbitrary by product of time and matter and chance, there is no logical reason for treating men and women as objects of dignity and respect. Since in principle they are no different from animals or trees or rocks from which they supposedly came.”

These are the fruits of evolution. The works of the flesh (Galatians 5: 19-21). Without the foundation of Genesis and the account of creation, we have no foundation to build on.

Today in our country we see many buildings being built, everything from small cottages to large skyscrapers, they all start with the same construction method. Building a strong foundation.
When Jesus discusses this issue with the Pharisees He appealed to the scriptures that they would recognize as truth, and to have a foundation to build on, to defend His position. Just as he did many, many times throughout scripture. This is a great lesson when teaching others today.

Show the photo of leaning tower. This building began construction in 1173 and took over 200 years to build because of 2 long delays. It began leaning before construction was finished. It lacked the proper foundation to support its weight. In the same way we need have a strong foundation in the word of God. Without the strong foundation we receive from Genesis and the creation, we may soon topple over as construction experts say this building will.

The biggest concern we should have is what does all this do to our society today. The foundation that belief in creation as Genesis 1 reads is also the foundation for laws, marriage, standards, the meaning of life, and the Gospel of Christ.  The Bible teaches there are absolutes from God. If one erodes that foundation and says that you don’t need it to stand on you then have nothing with which to disagree with lawlessness, homosexuality, abortion, pornography, abortion, and many other issues.

Without this foundation look at the examples of response to the Gospel being preached. The people in Jerusalem who heard the Gospel preached the first time, These people believed the Old Testament, they knew the Old Testament, in Acts 2:41 is says those who received his word were baptized.

I Acts 8 when the Ethiopian was studying the scriptures and Phillip ran to him, he overheard the Ethiopian reading the prophet Isaiah. He wasn’t coming up with alternate ideas of the creation account in Genesis, he believed it.  When he heard Christ preached to him he was baptized.  Acts 8: 38

The fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)

In contrast when the gospel was preached in Athens (Acts 17) how was it received by those men who didn’t know or believe in the Old Testament? Some mocked what Paul had said, Some lacked conviction and were made no decision, and some men joined him and believed.

The difference between the two groups was the belief in God the creator of our universe and all things.
 

I asked this question the first lesson of this study is it easier to the concern we should have over this being taught throughout our society today.
 
Thought Question: If one is taught to believe from a young age that their ancestors were monkeys, apes, fish, lizards,…etc. Where would their moral system come from?
